Twelve villas. Private saltwater pools. The kind of Ionian Sea views you think only exist in photographs until you’re standing there, bare feet, coffee in hand, and nowhere to be. Set on the southern shores of Kefalonia, Eliamos Villa Hotel & Spa isn’t a property that tries to impress you. It quietly resets you. Pilates by the pool. Dinner under the stars. Boat trips to coves only accessible by water. And the very real possibility that you won’t leave the villa at all—because why would you.
We arrived by car on a blustery afternoon early in October. Just 20 minutes from Kefalonia’s capital Argostoli, the roads narrowed and quieted the closer we got. The sun kept us warm as we were welcomed with a lemon ginger drink and an uninterrupted view of the Ionian. In the two days that followed, we lost track of time entirely. Poolside in our villa, unhurried, only surfacing for the occasional meal. And the meals were always worth surfacing for.

Eliamos: The Villa
We stayed in a one-bed villa overlooking an olive grove. It’s the kind of space that makes you cancel any plans you vaguely made for the day. Full-length glass doors frame the living space opening to the terrace and saltwater pool—we left them open for most of the stay as the October breeze brought the curtains to life and the garden scents in with it.
The interiors are warm and thoughtfully designed. Clean lines. Everything that you need and nothing you don’t. A bottle of local wine waited on the kitchenette island on arrival, which set the tone immediately. The bedroom looked out through another full-length glass door, letting the light spill in each morning to gently wake us.

From the Kitchen
Breakfast was the one thing that got us willingly out of the villa. Each morning, we ate overlooking the sea. A cappuccino (sometimes two) and yogurt bowl with local Kefalonian honey—smooth with hints of thyme. Honey so good it had me quietly asking if I could take the jar home.
Evenings brought us back to the restaurant—although calling it that doesn’t suffice. Glass walls open to the outside blurring the line between indoors, the open-air terrace, and the Ionian blue. The menu leans into what the island does well—fresh fish from the Ionian, vegetables from local farms, herbs from the hotel garden. Each meal was somehow better than the one before.

The Spa
We ended our stay with treatments at the spa—massages to give us one last reset before the journey home. The intimate spa features two treatment rooms filled with regional and organic products. After two days of doing very little, the massages gave us another level of relaxation we didn’t know existed.
What I’d Tell a Friend
Among luxury hotels on Kefalonia, there is nowhere quite like Eliamos. It’s a place you visit to unwind. Schedule a handful of activities and embrace the downtime. Book the spa treatment. Join the outdoor Pilates session. Linger a little longer at breakfast. Eliamos leaves you with a feeling of having properly stopped for the first time in a long time. A Relais & Châteaux property and member of Mr. & Mrs. Smith—quietly earned and entirely deserved.
