Somewhere between a dream and a Tuesday.

I keep trying to explain what makes this part of Greece feel different. It’s not one thing. It’s the no agenda. The no rushing. Just you, the heat, and water so blue it starts to feel personal.

It’s the way a Cyclades summer quietly shifts everything. Salt, sun, slow mornings. You, standing in the water, going nowhere, needing nothing.

That’s the quiet. That’s what I keep coming back for.

Baby season in Africa 🥹 Here’s when to go…

South Africa (Kruger): November through March. The wet summer season brings green landscapes and influx of baby animals. Expect thunderstorms, verdant bush, and elephant calves and lion cubs taking their first steps.

Kenya & Tanzania: January through March. The short dry spell within the green season draws predators into the open, which means big cat sightings, along with wildebeest calves, cheetah cubs, and zebra foals.

Botswana & Zimbabwe: November through March. The Okavango Delta comes alive with lion cubs and wild dog pups emerging from the den for the first time. In Hwange, elephant herds gather in extraordinary numbers with babies tucked safely between the adults.

Low season in Africa is the best-kept secret in safari travel.

The light at 6:00 am isn’t an alarm call—it’s an invitation. Morning coffee tastes better when zebras are grazing nearby. An elephant at the start of the afternoon game drive humbles you in a way only wild things can. And by 6:00 pm, drifting through the reeds on a mokoro, you’re wishing the day had more hours in it.

It feels like another planet—but it’s not. Wind an

It feels like another planet—but it’s not. Wind and sea have spent centuries carving volcanic rock into lunar white formations. The stone feels more sculpted than formed, its cliffs fall straight into impossibly blue water below. This is Sarakiniko Beach, on the western edge of Milos, Greece, a terrain caught between stone and sea—elemental and unforgettable.

How long have they been at this property. Do they work with a dedicated tracker. Will you have the same guide for your entire stay. Do they hold a formal guiding certification.

Your guide is who you spend six hours a day with in an open vehicle starting before the sun comes up. An exceptional guide who knows every animal in the bush by behavior, who reads tracks, sounds, and wind direction—that’s the experience.

The lodge is where you lounge. The guide is the safari.

Ask about the guiding team before anything else.

Small ears in my lens. Big ears in his binoculars. We flew across the bush toward something neither of us could fully see yet. We almost missed them.

Mother cheetah. Four cubs. They scattered—then came back one by one from the long grass.

We never found out what the wild dogs were doing.

There’s a particular kind of morning that only see

There’s a particular kind of morning that only seems to exist on Greek islands.

No one is rushing anywhere. The cat on the wall isn’t moving. The fisherman finished hours ago. And somewhere below, the sea is doing what it’s always done.

I had two coffees. I read four pages of the same paragraph. I watched the light change. I didn’t document any of it until it was already over.

Some places earn that.
